Richmond Hill, Galle
Richmond Hill is a small area in Galle, the capital of southern Sri Lanka. Richmond College, the boys' school is situated on the hill along with the Richmond Hill railway station. Richmond College is now a well-established institution with a reputation as one of the finest schools in Sri Lanka.
A Brief History
Richmond College was established in 1876 as 'Galle High School' by Reverend George Baugh. It has produced many prominent citizens, including the current President and a former Prime Minister.
Richmond Castle, located in Palathota, close to Kaluthara town in Western province of Sri Lanka, was built by Arthur de Silva Wijeyasing Padikara Mudali (1889-1947). It is currently being used as a Children's Orphanage and for community activities. The mansion is famous for its remarkable architectural features and is one of the few remaining buildings in the region belonging to that era.
